Therapy Direct therapy: one-to-one, paired, small group interventions. Individual programmes with specific targets and therapy resources. What we do Assessment The therapist will complete a combination of formal and informal-based assessments. It includes detailed discussions & a case history with parents/teaching staff. Observations of the child within their education setting (e.g. classroom, free play). The therapist will complete a report outlining their observations & findings, including recommendations and next steps. An initial assessment can take 1.5 – 3.0 hours depending on the complexity of communication needs.
Training Training and support for those around the child to support their communication in their daily settings. Training can be accredited courses such as Makaton or bespoke to the setting’s needs e.g. Colourful Semantics. Speech & Language Therapists provide advice and support with: Attention & listening skills Understanding of spoken language, concepts and questions Vocabulary Grammar Extending spoken language & oral narrative skills Speech sound production and clarity of speech Social-communication and social-interaction skills Stammering Alternative & Augmentative Communication (AAC) such as key word signs, picture symbols
